Helping out is even in the law
In Germany, children helping in the household is set out in law, age-appropriate and according to their ability.
Section 1619 of the German Civil Code requires a child to help in their parents' household while they live there and are raised or supported by their parents, to an extent suited to their abilities. The exact wording and what it means for each age group are explained in Chores by age.

Safety
Rewards without purchase pressure
A reward system must not become a sales channel. Children cannot buy anything in DOTOG: no loot boxes, manipulative designs, advertising or advertising tracking. The group chooses the rewards; we do not sell them. The optional BuddyChat blocks sensitive topics, and the admin can disable it for each child.

Common questions
What age is this for?
A reward system works most reliably from about age 7, when children can understand the link between a task, stars and a reward. Younger children can join in when parents choose tasks with them; DOTOG provides a child's own account only from age 7. Young children take on simple tasks shown with pictures, such as putting away toys or placing laundry in the basket. From age 9, they can handle the dishwasher, bins and pet care; from 13, cooking, shopping and laundry. Parents decide separately for each child which tasks are visible and how many stars they earn, so the system grows with the child. There is no upper age limit: teenagers use the same system with larger tasks and age-appropriate rewards. Children cannot buy anything in the app. Those aged 7 to under 16 get an account only through an invite code from an adult account and with parental consent. Rewards are not empty points; they are whatever your group agrees in advance.
Are these real rewards or just points?
Real ones. Your family sets what you can get for your stars, from extra time to pocket money to a day out. No meaningless points.
Who sets the tasks and rewards?
The parents. They decide which tasks exist, how many stars they give and which rewards can be redeemed. The child sees everything clearly in the app and starts collecting.
Is it safe for children?
Yes. DOTOG has no advertising tracking, and children cannot buy anything. Child accounts for users aged 7 to under 16 require parental consent. Data is processed on servers in the European Union; where individual service providers process it in the USA, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses apply.
Do you have to pay for the app?
Every subscription is a group subscription: each price pays for the whole group, never for one person. Rewards do not cost anything extra, and you can start for free. For up to five members, DOTOG Plus is 3.59 € per month or 34.99 € per year. Pro is 4.99 € per month for up to ten members, while Ultra is 19.99 € per month for up to one hundred. There is also the VIP pack, a one-off 3.99 € purchase for the whole group that unlocks every avatar and BonusBuddy without a subscription. Children cannot make purchases themselves. Doesn't rewarding just "bribe" kids?
Rewards work best as a kick-start, not as permanent payment for everything. Tip: the obvious things (brushing teeth, taking out the bins) stay normal; the extra effort gets rewarded. That way kids learn effort pays off, without putting a price on every little thing.
